Synopsis: The Voyager is in orbit above an outpost of the Mikhal Travellers, a loosely governed race of explorers who have extensive knowledge of the territory ahead of the Voyager.

Kes has recently broken up with Neelix, and she becomes interested in Zahir, one of the Mikhal Travellers, and considers travelling with him after spending most of her life aboard the Voyager.

The Emergency Medical Hologram tries to add some philosophical subroutines to his program, creating holograms of great philosophers from history in Neelix's holodeck simulation of the Paxau resort (Tropical Resort Simulation Three). The modifications cause the E.M.H. to malfunction and create a darker, violent personality in him.
