Episode Title: "AWAKENING"
Production Number: 084
Original Air Date: 11-26-04
Ambassador Soval is called before the Vulcan High Command, and expelled for practicing a forbidden mind-meld and concealing his ability. Administrator V'Las accuses the bomber of the United Earth embassy of being a Syrrannite, which Soval finds hard to believe. V'Las plans to bomb the Syrrannite base with photonic weapons, and convinces Admiral Gardner to order the Enterprise to leave Vulcan space.
In a hidden cave on Vulcan, Captain Archer and Commander T'Pol are captured by a group of Syrrannites, including T'Pol's mother, T'Les, and T'Pau, who tells them that the man called Arev, who mind-melded with Archer before dying, was really their leader, Syrran. In a vision, Archer sees Surak 1,800 years ago, in the time of Awakening. Surak tells Archer that Vulcan society has strayed from the path of his teachings, and must be restored. The Syrrannites believe that Syrran possessed the katra of Surak, and passed it on to Archer.
T'Pol tells Archer that centuries ago, a set of katric arks -- poly-crystaline vessels used by ancient Vulcans to preserve katras -- was discovered at the P'Jem monastary, but no evidence was found to confirm the existence of a katra in any of them. But Archer believes he has the katra of Surak, and allows T'Pau to try to remove it through a mind-meld, but another vision of Surak tells Archer that he must find the Kir'Shara, a lost Vulcan artifact that was hidden nearby.
Commander Tucker attempts to find Captain Archer and Commander T'Pol in the Forge, but Administrator V'Las orders Vulcan ships to attack the Enterprise and force it to leave orbit. Ambassador Soval tells Tucker that V'Las and the Vulcan High Command are planning to attack Andoria, on the suspician that the Andorians have obtained a Xindi weapon.
