Episode Title: "DAEDALUS"
Production Number: 086
Original Air Date: 01-14-05
Captain Archer's old friend, Dr. Emory Erickson, the inventor of transporter technology, comes aboard the Enterprise with his daughter, Danica, to conduct experiments in sub-quantum teleportation, which could allow people to travel instantly between planets without starships. The Enterprise travels to the Barrens, a region of space 100 light-years from the nearest star system.
An Enterprise crewman is killed my a mysterious spatial anomaly inside the ship, which causes massive cellular disruption as if the body were exposed to delta radiation. When the anomaly reappears, it is recorded and Archer recognizes it as the shape of Dr. Erickson's son, Quinn, who was Archer's best friend. Quinn Erickson was lost 15 years ago during a transporter experiment.
The Barrens is a subspace node, a bubble of curved space-time, that trapped Quinn's transporter signal. Dr. Emory Erickson lied about his experiments so that he could use the Enterprise to rescue his son from subspace.
Captain Archer decides to help find Quinn Erickson's transporter signal, but they are unable to repair the cellular damage to his body, and Quinn dies as soon as he materializes in the transporter.
Dr. Phlox determines that T'Pol shows no signs of Pa'nar Syndrome, which has been cured in many Vulcans since the discovery of the Kir'Shara.
