Synopsis: Subcommander T'Pol observes that crew efficiency is down three percent, and recommends that the crew take shore leave on a planet called Risa, which is about nine days away from the Enterprise's current location.

On the way to Risa, Captain Archer receives a transmission from Admiral Forrest at Starfleet Command, ordering him to pick up the Vulcan ambassador from the planet Mazar as soon as possible, since there are no Vulcan ships in the area. When the Enterprise picks up Ambassador V'Lar, the Mazarite High Council informs Archer that the ambassador has been expelled for abuse of her position and criminal misconduct.

The Enterprise is pursued by Mazarite ships that V'Lar tells Archer belong to a criminal organization that has infiltrated all levels of Mazarite government; V'Lar has gathered evidence against the criminals, and the criminal charges against her were fabricated to get her safely off the planet. The Enterprise must push the limits of its Warp 5 engine in order to reach the Vulcan starship Sh'Raan before the Mazarites catch them.
