Synopsis: On its route to Azati Prime, the Enterprise encounters a region of reconfigured space similar to the trans-dimensional disturbance encountered several weeks ago, and going around would take two weeks. The Enterprise could pass through the reconfigured spatial region if all crew members are put into a comatose state to protect each crew member's neocortex. Dr. Phlox remains awake to maintain the ship, since his Denobulan physiology is immune to the region's effects.

Over several days, Dr. Phlox becomes increasingly paranoid and begins suffering from hallucinations caused by the reconfigured space. He must activate the warp engines himself in order to get the ship clear of the expanding disturbance. The ship emerges with minimal damage, and Phlox awakens the crew.

Factoid: Dr. Phlox has heard of a Pycan space moth that drifted half a light-year trying to return to its homeworld.

Factoid: Denobulans are sociable, and cities on Denobula are very crowded.
