Synopsis: Commander Tucker is testing Shuttlepod One's new autopilot upgrades among the dozens of moons of a gas giant system, when an Arkonian patrol ship fires on him. The selenium isotopes in a moon's atmosphere damage both ships' engines, and they crash on the moon's dark side.

The Enterprise encounters an Arkonian military vessel, and their crews agree to work together to find the two crashed ships.

Without a Universal Translator, Commander Tucker and the alien pilot, Zho'Kaan, must work together to repair a transceiver to contact their ships before the moon's dawn, when the sunlight will raise the moon's temperature to lethal levels.

  • Factoid: Vulcans made first contact with the Arkonians nearly 100 years ago, not long after the Arkonians developed warp drive, but the Arkonians were suspicious and deceitful, and the High Command eventually withdrew its contingent.
